personality | |
First Impression: Cassidy comes across as an ordinary, simple woman unafraid of hard work. This impression is accented by her plain features and larger-boned build. She seems a little insecure at first glance, but her uneasiness hides a strong determination to do the right thing and help whomever she can. She is very friendly, provided you don't immediately dismiss her for her appearance. Positive Traits: hard-working, fair-minded, thrifty, sense of humor, determination, friendly, honest, not too ambitious Negative Traits: stubborn, insecure in romance/sex, hyper-focused, self-deprecating Romantic Persona: Cassidy is the type of woman who is steadfast in her affections. She has been scorned in the bedroom before, by her previous Court's consort, and this has left her feeling very fragile towards sex. If she were to fall in love, it would be with someone of like-mind to her, who would match her temperament, and who would see her inner beauty as opposed to the plain face and freckles. She isn't likely to swoon, nor to be taken in by pretty words. Honesty of emotion and intent are what will win Cassidy's heart. Turn Ons: any gestures which come from the heart Turn Offs: any gestures made out of pity or duty Likes: gardening, plants, working with the land, chocolate, stealing cookies from her mother's baking, spending time with her "Poppi", spending time with Gray, doing the best she can for the people she rules, reading Dislikes: butting heads with Theran over everything, Lady Kermilla and her court, people judging her by her appearance, being told what to do (especially by stubborn males), corruption and greed, porridge, cruelty Fears: that males only see her as "good enough when there's nothing else available" both sexually and politically, not living up to expectations (her own and others), getting nipped by Vae, being rejected by Gray, Kermilla Religion: The Old Ways of the Blood Education: apprenticed with the Dark Court for four months before it was officially formed - had protocol lessons with the High Lord of Hell (aka "Uncle Saetan") and combat training with the Prince of Ebon Rih, Lucivar, focusing on clubbed weaponry; home-educated otherwise Languages: Common Favorites Color: greens - they set off her hair nicely Food: chocolate chunk cookies Drink: coffee Smell: freshly turned soil, honey pear trees Hobby: gardening Place: the Queen's Garden at Grayhaven Animal: Scelties (of course) Music: Shaladoran Flute Season: all of them ![]() |
Social Persona: The first thing one notices about Cassidy's personality is that she's entirely suited to her caste as Queen. Not because she has fine aristo manners or breeding -she comes from a working-class home - but because she is not afraid of hard work and is determined to make sure that she does the best she can for those whom she serves and are who in service to her. According to Jaenelle, the (unofficial) Queen of the Dark Court, Cassidy is "a good solid Queen, and she's got the tenacity to dig in and work." She takes great pride in her work, whether its helping her parents clean the family house, managing the towns of Bhak and Woolskin, or working on trying to rebuild Dena Nehele, despite certain obstacles of the male variety. As she tells one of her court, after he's chastised another Queen for doing "servant's work", "My family is not aristo, Prince Ranon. We never had servants. And even though by caste I am a Queen, I am also a daughter. So when my mother pulled out the rags and mops on cleaning day, I dusted and polished the furniture, and mopped the floors right along with her." She lives by her mother's adage, "A good life didn't have to be an expensive life," and as a result, was very good at making her money, both personal and tithes, stretch to ensure that those under her rule prospered. If she is not careful, however, Cassidy can end up working herself too hard, and this has brought her injury in the past, and will again in future. If she is upset, she throws herself into a task, not really paying attention to it, as negative thoughts circle through her head. Her insecurities over her looks and over how men, especially, react to her plain features, drive her to the garden at Grayhaven Estate, where she spends hours digging and pulling up weeds and trying to shift rock, oblivious to the damage it causes her hands, and it's only a shock to the system via her friend Lucivar that makes her realize what she's done. Cassidy has experience dealing with all sorts of people, which makes her, for the most part, easy to get along with. She is just as comfortable buying merchandise from a landen weaver as she is dealing with members of the Dark Court, the "lowest" class through the "highest" class, and she treats everyone fairly. She makes sure that the darker-Jeweled members of her First Circle end up with enough food to sustain them, even though they are "living lean", by taking extra for herself and then giving it to those who might miss breakfast. Cassidy has a strong sense of justice, and will not back down from something she considers unfair. She will even resort to physical violence against another if she sees that person attacking someone who cannot defend themselves physically. Cruelty is something Cassidy cannot abide in any form. As one of the Blood, she is able to sense the psychic residue of people long after they have left a room, and refuses to use the rooms at Grayhaven Estate that Theran had initially provided for her, because she could sense the negativity in the rooms. "She didn't know what could have been done in a Queen's bedroom to make the room feel like that, but an oppressive, gleeful cruelty seemed to pulse from the walls. She had bolted. She'd stood in the doorway, trying not to be sick, trying to explain why she couldn't use the suite." Indeed, what she perceives as cruelty on Theran's part toward his cousin Gray one of many things that make her working relationship with her First Escort difficult. She discovers that Gray lives in a beat-up shed, rather than in the walls of the house, and accuses Theran of not wanting Gray in the house because he's been "damaged" in mind by the former Queens of the province. This is one example of how much importance Cassidy places on the idea of family. Aside from her duties to her people, her duties to her family are the most important things to her. She has a loving relationship with her mother, father and brother, and she is heart-sick at leaving them behind in Kaeleer while she goes to rule in Dena Nehele. To help ease her transition, her mother gives her seeds from the family garden, so she can have a bit of home with her in her new Territory. She respects the opinions of her family and the people close enough to her to be family, like her distant cousin Aaron, like Jaenelle and her father, whom Cassidy is allowed to call "Uncle Saetan", and like Gray. |
appearance | |
Portrayed By: Sina-Valeska Jung Gender: Female Nationality: Kaeleeran Ethnicity: Caucasian (from the short-lived races) Species: Human Blood Witch Powers/Abilities: Cassidy has the ability to call upon magical reserves from deep within her Abyss, drawing as far as the level of the Rose, her Jewel of Rank. She is one of the lighter jewels, and thus does not have as much magical Craft capabilities as some of her friends, but she uses her Craft wisely. She can store personal belongings in her own "hammer space" by Vanishing them and Calling them back. She can use her own blood, mixed with water or undiluted, to nourish the land. She can create shields as strong as her Jewels around herself and others, or use her power aggressively. She cannot, as of yet, air-walk, however. |
Height: taller than average for a female of Kaeleer Build: large-boned, one might say stocky Eyes: hazel Hair: sunset red and long Skin: very pale, prone to burn in the sun Wardrobe: for "Queenly duties", Cassidy wears simple yet elegant pieces - skirts and blouses, simple dresses, pantsuits. For gardening, she has sets of grubby clothes that can take the mud and dirt. She prefers comfort to luxury, and likes curling up in sweaters in the cold. Distinguishing Features: Cassidy's face and neck are marked by fine freckles, which, yes, do go all the way down. |
relationships | |
Orientation: Straight Status: Single Past Love(s): Jhorka, her old Consort - there was no love, but Cassidy did feel genuine affection for him, which made his betrayal hurt all the more when he abandoned her for Kermilla. Parents: Burle and Devra Siblings: Clayton (older brother) Significant Other: none (yet) - she's thinking maybe she'd like Gray for that role Children: none Relatives: distant cousin Aaron, who is only distant until he feels Cassidy is in danger, and then he's as close as her brother, and Aaron's wife Kalush Friends: Jaenelle Angelline, Saetan SaDiablo, Gray, Ranon, Talon, Shira, Vae, Sabrina Acquaintances: Daemon SaDiablo, Lucivar Yaslana, Karla, Surreal SaDiablo, Rainier, most of Jaenelle's "old" court Enemies: Theran (most of the time), Kermilla |
Despite her strength of spirit, Cassidy is still a very fragile young woman in regards to her appearance and to sex. When she ruled Bhak and Woolskin on behalf of the Province Queen of Dharo, Cassidy allowed several younger Queens to apprentice under her, so that they could have the experience of serving in a court and learn Protocol and governance and careful management of resources (something Cassidy excelled in, and which made Bhak and Woolskin prosperous during her 5 years of rule). However, one of the young Queens, Kermilla, charmed her way into the hearts of all of Cassidy's First Circle males, and as soon as their five year contract was up, they broke with her and reformed around Kermilla, all to a man, including her consort, Jhorka. Jhorka's betrayal hit her especially hard, as he'd given no indication that he'd disliked having sex with her until his parting words: "Did you really think I was excited about being in bed with you? I worked damn hard in your bed, Cassidy, and thank the Darkness you never wanted a ride in the daylight....At least with Lady Kermilla I won't need a drug to keep myself hard in order to fulfill my duties." Cassidy is still hurting from this betrayal, and has had no desire for sex if it comes from a sense of obligation or pity. |
history | |
Cassidy is the younger child of a working class Blood family from the province of Dharo in the territory of Kaeleer, also known as the Shadow Realm. Her father is a carpenter by trade, and her mother keeps house and has extensive knowledge of plants and land. Everyone in the family was surprised to discover, upon undergoing her Birthright Ceremony and receiving her Tiger's Eye Jewel, that Cassidy was a Queen by caste. She was quickly apprenticed to some of the regional Queens in Dharo, and eventually spent four months in the Dark Court at Ebon Askavi in an apprenticeship, serving under Witch, Jaenelle Angelline. Here, she took Protocol lessons from the Dark Court's Steward (and Jaenelle's adoptive father), Saetan SaDiablo, and grew close enough to him during that time that she was allowed to call him "Uncle Saetan" as Jaenelle's Coven did. Cassidy grew to know the Coven and the other Circles that made up Jaenelle's Court, especially since her cousin Aaron was one of Jaenelle's First Circle, as was Sabrina, the up-and-coming territory Queen of Dharo. Upon completion of her apprenticeship, Cassidy was given two villages over which to rule, the Blood village of Bhak, and the landen village of Woolskin, under a five year contract. Because she was careful with her resources and fair in her judgments, the two villages prospered and the people were content with her as Queen. During the last year or so of her rule, Sabrina sent other young Queens, including Kermilla, to apprentice under Cassidy, as Cassie had under Jaenelle, to better learn the responsibilities Queens had to the land and people. But Kermilla cared only for the social status being a Queen gave her, and for the power it gave her over the males of the Court, which she used to her advantage. At the end of Cassidy's five year contract, two years after the witch-storm unleashed by Jaenelle to purge the depraved Blood from the Realms, all the males of her first circle broke with her, instead swearing allegiance to Kermilla. By default, this meant that Kermilla was now the Queen of Bhak and Woolskin, as Cassidy had no court, and one could not rule without a court. Cassidy returned home to her parents' house in Weavers Field, hurt, betrayed, and very insecure. She did not have a lot of time to mope, however, because not long after she had settled in, Jaenelle and her cousin Aaron arrived with a proposition for her, one which she found impossible to refuse. A descendant of one of Daemon SaDiablo's old friends had called in a favor, and asked for his help in finding a Queen capable of restoring his home territory of Dena Nehele, which was located in the Realm of Terrielle, where most of the corrupt Blood had lived. The Queens who hadn't perished in the witch-storm were either too young or not strong enough to rule, and Theran Grayhaven was desperate for someone who knew the Old Ways and knew Protocol to help him solidify his territory. Cassidy accepted the terms of service, agreeing to rule provisionally for one year, to see how things worked out, and prepared to leave everything she knew behind. Her first meeting with Theran, however, left a bitter taste in her mouth. He was quick to judge, and judge on appearance, and found Cassidy lacking. For Theran, beautiful and dazzling meant capable of uniting his people, and Cassidy didn't measure up. He agreed to serve her, but he wasn't hers. Still, she had agreed to do her best, and Cassidy journeyed to Grayhaven to meet with the other males who could possibly form her court. To her surprise, eleven men, ranging from Warlord Princes to Warlords were hers, and readily agreed to form her First Circle. Finances dictated that the court couldn't support much more than a First Circle, but Cassidy was good with money, and was able to make do. She did find a Healer, Shira, who was also a Black Widow, and had a friend from Kaeleer, a Kindred Sceltie named Vae, to help her. She settled into Grayhaven cautiously, unsure of her place and of her males, except for a young man she found in the gardens, who called himself Gray. Gray was the only male Cassidy felt completely comfortable around, and enjoyed helping him in the gardens. |
